Organic Food is considered by many to be a safer alternative for human's good health. It is also thought to be better for pets, livestock and wild animals. Organic farming is healthy for the environment. It keeps the soil fertile and healthy so crops continue to grow well. Conventional farming is when the farmer will spray pesticide to keep the insects and weeds away from the crops. In organic farming, farmers don't spray chemicals. They use other ways to get rid of insects and weeds, such as pulling weeds by hand and planting different kinds of crops each year. Planting different crops each year is called Crop Rotation and is very important to keep the soil rich in nutrients. Organic processors are companies who take organic crops and make them into other foods such as spaghetti sauce, noodles, bread, and many other foods - even chocolate and other sweets. You can even get organic soap, clothes and pet foods that are made out of organic crops. International Certification Services, Inc is a certification agency. Our job is to help the farmers and processors prove that they are organic. We check to make sure they aren't using chemicals; and if they do use fertilizer, we make sure that it won't hurt the land or products. After we inspect the organic farm or processing facility, and agree that there aren't any harmful chemicals being used, we give the farmer or processor a certificate so he/she can sell the product and say that it is organic. |
