USDA requirements are imbedded -- you get two for one! (USDA with FVO requirements added)
The FVO program is accredited to the following:
IFOAM Accreditation -- world wide recognition, quality AND use of the IFOAM seal! Acceptance by international IFOAM Accredited certifiers.
ISO 65 -- required in some markets.
In 1995, the FVO program became the first certification program in the US to be accredited by the International Organic Accreditation Service (IOAS), the international organic accreditation program established by International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements (IFOAM). The IOAS also manages ICS' ISO 65 accreditation. .
The Canada Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has recently signed an equivalency agreement with the USDA regarding acceptance of the NOP as equivalent to the COR.
The "equivalency agreement" follows a review by both nations of the other's organic certification program and a determination that products meeting the standard in the United States can be sold as organic in Canada, and vice versa.
International Certification Services, Inc. has been accredited by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) to certify organic products, under the Organic Products Regulations, 2009, in Canada.
